SYMPTOMS

When you install the cc:Mail service that comes in the Microsoft Outlook 97, version 8.01, ValuPack, you may receive the following message:

This version of Microsoft Outlook does not contain client support for Lotus cc:Mail. For information on how to use Microsoft Outlook directly with a Lotus cc:Mail post office, please contact Transend Corporation,

email: info@Transend.com

or visit their Web site at

www.Transend.com

CAUSE

The above message displays if you install Outlook 97, version 8.01, on a computer that does not contain a cc:Mail service from an earlier version of Outlook 97. Outlook 97, version 8.01, which ships with Microsoft Exchange Server, version 5.0, does not include a license for the Lotus cc:Mail transport service.

RESOLUTION

If you have Microsoft Office 97, or Outlook 97, version 8.0, you have a licensed Lotus cc:Mail transport service. Use the cc:Mail service from the Office 97 or Outlook 97, version 8.0, ValuPacks with Outlook 97, version 8.01.

Microsoft Outlook 97, version 8.02 includes the licensed Lotus cc:Mail transport service.

MORE INFORMATION

The Lotus cc:Mail service is licensed for distribution by Microsoft from Transend Corporation, 225 Merson Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301. Microsoft Office and Outlook 97, version 8.0, include a licensed copy of Transend Corporation's Lotus cc:Mail transport service. Outlook 97, version 8.01, which ships with Exchange Server, version 5.0, does not include the cc:Mail service license.

You may use either the Office 97 or Outlook 97, version 8.0, cc:Mail service with Outlook 97, version 8.01. Future standalone releases of Outlook will include a liscense for the cc:Mail service.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97 version 8.01 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Outlook 97 version 8.02 for Windows.
