BUG: No Workspace Settings Tab in Stand-alone MSDN

Article ID: 167417

Article Last Modified on 10/15/2002

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 3

This article was previously published under Q167417

SYMPTOMS

The Visual Studio 97 version of MSDN (ships with the Professional and Enterprise editions of: Visual Studio 97, Visual C++ 5.0, and Visual Basic 5.0, as well as Visual J++ 1.1 and Visual InterDev 1.0) contains a stand- alone version of the IDE (Iv5.exe) that does not have a workspace settings dialog box.

The Developer Studio user interface that is used by Visual C++, Visual J++, Visual InterDev, etc. has a Workspace Settings tab under Tools on the Options menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The Workspace Settings tab provides two major features:

  • A list to specify which window types have dockable views
  • Settings for the status bar, workspace reload, MRU lists, etc.

An alternate method of specifying if a window's view is dockable is to right-click the window when it is displayed and select Docking View from the context menu.

The settings that you can choose under the Workspace tab generally do not apply to MSDN. If you need to use a workspace setting (such as the traditional menus setting to enable use by screen reader programs), do not use the MSDN InfoViewer, but rather the Developer Studio user interface that is installed with the development products like Visual C++ or Visual J++.
