Visual Interdev Autopost Hotfix

Bug:
Visual InterDev FrontPage Editor Saving Files with Zero File Length.
Hotfix Information:
This hotfix corrects this bug that has affected some users, especially when running Visual InterDev against the Personal Web Server for Windows 95. If you have encountered this bug, then you should apply this fix by following the directions below.

This is a preliminary release that has been tested specifically to address this problem. If you have not encountered this bug on your Web configuration, then you should not apply this fix.

Bug SYMPTOMS

When saving a file in the FrontPage editor for Visual InterDev, the file in the Web Project is saved with no contents, resulting in a 0-byte length file. Turning off "Update server when files are saved" under Tools, Options, Web Projects, may have prevented this problem from occurring.
Installing the Fix:
Use the following steps to install the fix:

  1. Ensure Visual InterDev is closed and that no other Visual Studio developer tool is running (Visual C++, Visual J++, Visual Basic 5, or Visual FoxPro).
  2. Run VIUpdate.exe to extract the Devisws.pkg file.
  3. On your Visual InterDev workstation, find the Developer Studio installation directory. The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Devstudio\.
  4. Rename the existing Devstudio\SharedIDE\Bin\Ide\Devisws.pkg to Devisws.bak, or make a backup copy.
  5. Copy the new, extracted Devisws.pkg file into the Devstudio\SharedIDE\Bin\Ide\ directory to replace the existing file in this directory.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 1.
