SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Outlook 97 may hang when replying to a message that was received via a X.400 link.

CAUSE

This may happen if the X.400 message does not contain a Display Name for the message originator. In X.400 terms this is the "Free Form Name" which is an optional field. A remote X.400 system may or may not send the "Free Form Name", this is valid behavior.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
