SYMPTOMS
If you insert a Map object on your worksheet, controls on various toolbars (Picture and Drawing for example) may not be available, depending on how you inserted the Map.
CAUSE
If you click Map on the Insert menu to insert a Map object on your worksheet, the inserted object is treated like an ActiveX control. Picture editing like changes to brightness and contrast for example, may not be available. Also, any changes you make on the Picture tab of the Format Object dialog box are ignored and the next time you click this tab, the changes you made are reset to their default values.
If you click Object on the Insert menu to insert a Map object on your worksheet and then double-click Microsoft Map on the Create New tab of the Object dialog box, the object is treated like an ordinary OLE object. In this case, you are able to make changes to items like brightness, contrast and grouping.
RESOLUTION
For the Microsoft Map object to behave like a standard OLE object and allow editing changes (to brightness and contrast for example), do the following:
- On the Insert menu, click Object.
- Click the Create New tab, select Microsoft Map and then click OK.
If you have already created a Map by clicking Map on the Insert menu, you will have to recreate it using the steps noted.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
