Hardware Requirements


  • A personal or multimedia computer with a 486 or higher microprocessor.
  • 12 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM) to run on Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 98, or 16 MB of RAM to run on Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Windows 2000. You may need more memory to run additional applications simultaneously.
  • CD-ROM drive or 3.5-inch high-density disk drive. If you want to receive Microsoft Access 97 on 3.5-inch disks, you must redeem a coupon enclosed in the CD-ROM version.
  • VGA resolution or higher video adapter (Super VGA (SVGA) 256-color is recommended).
  • Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device.

Software Requirements

Microsoft Access 97 is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51 with Service Pack 5

Supported Networks

Microsoft Access 97 supports the following networks:

  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows NT
  • Novell NetWare

Hard Disk Space

The following hard disk space requirements are approximate:

  • 40 MB for a Typical setup
  • 60 MB for a Custom setup with all options
  • 32 MB for Run from CD-ROM setup

Additional Items or Services Required to Use Certain Features


  • 9600 baud or higher modem (14,400 baud or higher is recommended)
  • If you plan to create dynamic Web pages, the "Publish to the Web" feature requires Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) or Microsoft Personal Web Server for Windows 95 software on the computer where the Web pages reside. This does not have to be the same computer where you use Microsoft Access 97 to create your Web pages.


NOTE: The "Publish to the Web" Wizard can also create static HTML pages that you can use with any Web server software.

  • Internet access is required to use the "Microsoft on the Web" Help menu.
