SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange Server Message Transfer Agent (MTA) may stop unexpectedly with the following Event ID error when receiving mail from the HP X400 MTA:

An unexpected error has occurred which may cause the MTA to terminate. Error: Exception c0000005 occurred at Address 6d515422. [BASE DISP:ROUTER 12] (16)


In addition, there may be other events logged, due to difficulties stemming from the HP MTA interoperability. You may encounter either of the following events:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0.
