XCON: MTA Terminates Unexpectedly with Event 3080 and 9405

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent (MTA) might terminate unexpectedly with the following sequence of events:

EventID:9405
Source:MSExchangeMTA
Description:
An unexpected error has occurred which may cause the MTA to terminate. Error: Exception e0050c08 occurred at Address 77f3cbcd. [BASE OPERATOR 35] (16)

Description:
A fatal MTA database server error was encountered. [XAPI OPERATOR 35 245] (16)

Description:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange Service Pack. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):

You will need to restart the MTA and it should continue to process mail without further incident.

The final critical error occurred in oxpginfo(). This passed the error code (C08 hex = 3080 decimal) up the call stack where the exception was raised. The unexpected termination of the MTA might have been caused by an XAPI entity deletion being performed.
