Time Zone Shift Results in Incorrect Alarm for Event

Article ID: 146153

Article Last Modified on 5/21/2001

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Schedule+ 97 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q146153

SYMPTOMS

Alarms set for single events (annual events and recurring annual events--- items that do not have a specific start and end time) do not adjust for time zone changes. This does not apply to items such as appointments that do have specific start and end times. The alarm is triggered based on the original time zone setting.

CAUSE

This happens because times are kept in the RingAlarms table in UTC that gets converted to the Local time by the front end. This works correctly for appointments because the appointment always have a specific start and end time. However, for tasks and events that do not have a specific start and end time (the start time is assumed to be 12 A.M. of that day), the NotifyDateTime gets converted when it should not be.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Schedule+ version 7.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
