MORE INFORMATION

Converting Lotus Word Pro Documents to Word

To convert documents from Lotus Word Pro to Word, follow these steps:

  1. On the Lotus File menu, click either Save As or Import/Export.
  2. If you select Import/Export, select the option to export your document into another file format.
  3. Select one of the following file format options from the List Files Of Type list in the Save As dialog box or the "Export to what file format" list in the Import/Export dialog box.

    • Rich Text Format (RTF)
    • MS Word for DOS 3,4,5,6
    • MS Word for Windows 1.0
    • MS Word for Windows 2.0
    • MS Word for OS/2
    • MS Word for Windows 6.0
For best results, select the option that most closely matches your Microsoft Word version. Word 7.0 can open any of the file formats referenced in this step, but the MS Word for Windows 6.0 format will usually result in the best formatting retention when converting to Word 7.0.
  4. Click Export to convert the file, and then open the document in Word.

Converting Word Documents to Lotus Word Pro

Word Pro automatically recognizes Word versions 1.x through 7.0 for Windows, Word 6.x for the Macintosh, Word 6.x for Windows NT, Word versions

3.x through 6.0 for MS-DOS, and RTF documents, regardless of file name extension. To open files from any of these versions of Word into Word Pro, provided the appropriate converter is installed, click Open on the File menu and open the file.

Word Pro does not recognize Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition documents. To open these document in Word Pro, save the document using either the Rich Text Format (*.RTF) or Word 6.0/95 (*.doc) converter from Word.

Word Pro also exports the following formats that Word can read. If any of these (for example, WordPerfect 6.0) provide better retention of particular formats most important to you, use it as an alternative interim format:

RFT-DCA * (listed in Word Pro as DCA/RFT)
MS Windows Write 3.x
WordPerfect 5.1
WordStar 3,4,5,6,7
WordStar for Windows 1.x
WordPerfect 6.x
MS WordPad 1.0
HTML (Supported for import by Word Internet Assistant)
Enable 4.x

Word Pro does not recognize Word 5.x for the Macintosh documents, and these must be saved from Word 5.x in RTF or Word for MS-DOS format prior to opening into Word Pro.
