SYMPTOMS
If you enter an Actual Start date and an Actual Finish date such that the Actual Start is different from the original Start, and the Actual Duration is different from the original Duration, then the Actual Start may change back to the original Start.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the task has a fixed duration, has at least one resource, Calculation is set to Manual, and either the Actual Start or Actual Finish date has been entered without a time of day.
NOTE: Once the problem occurs, recalculating the project (by pressing F9 for example) will have no effect because the task is currently set to 100% complete.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
- Method 1: Enter in both the date and time (for example, 10/3/95 8:00am) for the Actual Start and Actual Finish.
- Method 2: Set Calculation to Automatic prior to entering the actual dates. Calculation can be set to Automatic as follows:
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- Click the Calculation tab, and then click Automatic. Click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
