SYMPTOMS
After you edit a Microsoft Excel worksheet object that is embedded in a Microsoft Word document and then switch to Microsoft Word, some of the characters in the Microsoft Excel worksheet object may be displayed as question marks.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you type Unicode characters into one or more of the cells in the Microsoft Excel worksheet object.
RESOLUTION
To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Excel 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
MORE INFORMATION
Although one or more of the characters are displayed as question marks, the characters are displayed normally when you switch to the Microsoft Excel worksheet object.
