SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to paste text from Word into Macromedia Freehand versions 4.0 or 5.0, you may receive the following error message:

The Paste command was unable to be completed because an error occurred.

CAUSE

When you copy text in Word, Word places that text on the Clipboard in OLE 2.0 format. Freehand versions 4.0 and 5.0 cannot read this format.

RESOLUTION

In Word, use the following steps to change the way text is copied to the Clipboard:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
  2. Select the General tab.
  3. Clear (remove the X) the Include Formatted Text In Clipboard option.

You can now paste text into Freehand successfully.
