FILES AVAILABLE FROM ONLINE SERVICES

Item ID Filename Description
------- -------- -----------

S14603 94WINQA.EXE The 94WINQA.EXE file contains the source code for
the "Windows Q & A" column by Matt Pietrek.

S14602 94W32QA.EXE The 94W32QA.EXE file contains the source code for
                         the "Win32 Q & A" column by Jeffrey Richter.

S14604 NTPERF.EXE The NTPERF.EXE file contains the source code for
the article named "Removing Bottlenecks from Your
Program with Windows NT Performance-Tuning Tools,"
                         by Walter Oney.

Walter Oney shows how to diagnose and cure major
bottlenecks that often crop up in your code. His
examples include a program with a bad algorithm
that wastes CPU time and a poorly constructed
application that starts slowly due to its huge
                         initial working set.

S14605 MCI.EXE The MCI.EXE file contains the source code for the
article named "Simplify Access to Complex Multi-
media Devices with the Media Control Interface,"
                         by Jeff Prosise.

MCI consists of device drivers plus high-level
                         message- and string-based functions for
communicating with device types ranging from CD
and tape players to scanners, VCRs, and video-
disks. Here, Jeff Prosise examines MCI in the
context of the CD Audio driver.
