PRJ: Print Preview Hangs Using HP-GL/2 Plotter Driver

Q112200

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0

SYMPTOMS

If you are using the Hewlett Packard (HP) HP-GL/2 plotter driver version 1.2, Microsoft Project may hang when you attempt to view a project in print preview.

CAUSE

Microsoft Project will hang if the page orientation is set to landscape, and the plotter paper being used is set to User Defined Size with a defined length greater than 60 - 70 inches.

NOTE: This problem is discussed in the Microsoft Project section of the HPDRIVER.WRI file that ships with the HP-GL/2 driver.

WORKAROUND

The latest version of this driver is now 1.4, and has been released by Hewlett-Packard as of 9/15/94. It is available from Hewlett-Packard directly or by download on Compuserve in the HP Peripherals Forum.

MORE INFORMATION

The Hewlett Packard (HP) HP-GL/2 plotter driver limits plotting lengths to 109.2 inches. If you are using the HP-GL/2 plotter driver, you can set this page as a user-defined size by doing the following:

  1. In Microsoft Project, choose Print Setup from the File menu.
  2. Select the Hewlett Packard HP-GL/2 plotter driver, and choose Setup.
  3. In the Media Size Option, select User Defined Size.

If the length is defined greater than 70 inches, previewing the project in landscape mode will cause Microsoft Project to hang.
