SYMPTOM

When you insert new entries into the Gantt Chart Palette, if you exceed the 20 bar limit, existing entries will be lost.

NOTE: You do not receive an error message alerting you that bars will be deleted if the number of entries exceeds 20.

CAUSE

The Gantt Chart Palette cannot have more than 20 entries.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

The following steps can be used to reproduce the behavior in versions older than 4.0.

  1. From the Format menu, choose Palette.
  2. Click the Insert button 20 times.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list.

All of the existing bars are gone, and the palette is empty (it contains the blank fields you inserted by choosing the Insert button).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
