APPLIES TO

This article was previously published under Q111642

SYMPTOMS

If you create a custom Database template in Works and save it from List view without any data, the next time you try to use it, the following error may occur:

MSWORKS
An error has occurred in your application. If you choose Ignore, you should save your work in a new file. If you choose Close, your application will terminate.

If you choose Close, the following message may appear:

Application Error
MSWorks caused a General Protection Fault in module MSWORKS.EXE at 0086:1056.

If you add records to the Database template first and save it from List view, the general protection (GP) fault does not occur; however, the List view will be blank or only a small amount of the grid will display when the template is opened. You have to switch to Form view and back to List view to see the data.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Works version 3.0a for Windows.

To avoid this problem, save your custom Database templates in Form view.
