SYMPTOMS
When an RPL machine is actively accessing the FIT translated RPL volume (drive C:) and a multicast packet is received, the system sometimes hangs.
This behavior has been found to occur most often on a 3Com Etherlink II card, but could be seen with other adapters.
CAUSE
This was caused by a routine being called by means of a dispatch table to low memory when the code resided in low memory and should have been called directly.
RESOLUTION
The fix for the LAN Manager MS-DOS redirector that corrects this problem can be obtained as CSD00.078.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in LAN Manager version 2.2. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
STEPS TO DUPLICATE BEHAVIOR
Create a batch file on the workstation to recursively do a DIR C:\ /s and run this while continuously starting and stopping the Netlogon service on the server (which causes Netlogon mailslot broadcasts).
