Cannot Open or Save WordPerfect Documents with Many Equations |
Q111076
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0
SYMPTOMS
When you open a WordPerfect document that contains a large number of equations in Word for Windows, or when you save a document in WordPerfect file format from Word, a general protection (GP) fault or the following error message may occur:
Problem converting equation. Continue with document conversion?
If you choose Yes to continue, Word may or may not be able to continue opening or saving the document.
CAUSE
Microsoft Equation Editor caches all the equations it updates, which means that you eventually run out of memory as more equations are updated. Sometimes the low-memory situation causes a GP fault in Equation Editor. When this happens, the WordPerfect equation converter usually shuts down as well.
WORKAROUND
To avoid converting too many equations at once and running out of memory, break the document into two or more smaller files.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
