PRB: Pasting Right Arrow in MESSAGE Clause Causes an Error

ID: Q111057

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.0, 2.5, 2.5a, and 2.5b

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a graphical right arrow from special characters and paste it between quotation marks in the MESSAGE clause of an @ ... GET command, the .SPR files terminates with the message "Unrecognized phrase/keyword in command."

CAUSE

The right arrow symbol is interpreted as an end-of-file (EOF) marker. A left arrow pasted between quotation marks will not cause an error.

RESOLUTION

Type "Chr(26)" (without the quotation marks) in the MESSAGE clause. This places a right arrow in the MESSAGE clause without causing an error.
