XL5: Maximum Data Series Error with Plot Visible Cells On



The information in this article applies to:


  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0





SYMPTOMS

When you create a chart from a range of data that includes hidden rows, you may receive the following error message

Maximum number of data series per chart is 255

even though the option to Plot Visible Cells Only is selected.



WORKAROUND

To plot data in a range of cells greater than 255 rows, do the following:


  1. Select the range of data and choose Goto from the Edit menu and then choose the Special button.
  2. In the Go To Special dialog box, select the Visible Cells Only check box and choose OK.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
  4. Select a cell in the same column as, but below, the data.
  5. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
  6. With the new range of cells selected, plot the chart.
