Next Style Inherits Frame as Hard Formatting

Last reviewed: July 30, 1997
Article ID: Q110658

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0
  • Microsoft Word for Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you apply a style that contains frame formatting, the next paragraph will continue with the frame formatting, even though you defined the framed-format style as being followed by a different style that does not have frame formatting (using the "Style for Following Paragraph" attribute).

Note: In earlier versions of Word (2.x for Windows, 5.x for the Macintosh), frame formatting does not carry over to the next style.

WORKAROUND

After pressing ENTER to insert another paragraph, press CTRL+Q (Word for Windows) or COMMAND+OPTION+Q (Word for the Macintosh). The style containing the Frame formatting will be removed from the paragraph, and the designated style will remain.

STATUS

This functionality, though different from Word 2.x for Windows or Word 5.x for the Macintosh, is by design.
