Publisher Err Msg: Cannot Open WordArt Program

Q110522

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If the TEMP directory and the SET TEMP parameter in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
are set to a RAM Drive that is not big enough, or any other drive partition
that does not have enough room for the TMP files created by Publisher, the
error "Cannot Open WordArt Program" may occur when you try to start WordArt
2.0. This may also occur when you run a PageWizard Design Assistant that
uses WordArt.

RESOLUTION
==========

Set the TEMP directory (usually set in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file with a line
similar to SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP) to a drive and directory where there
is sufficient space available for all the TMP files that may be created. If
no drive is available that has adequate storage (free space), then free
space may be created by enlarging the RAM drive (if available memory allows
it), by removing files on the hard drive, or by increasing the free space
on the hard drive by means of a data-compression utility such as MS-DOS 6.0
or 6.2 DoubleSpace (DBLSPACE).

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 and
2.0a. This problem was corrected in Publisher version 3.0 for Windows 95.
