PUB2: Running Administrative and Node Setup Concurrently

Q110520

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0 and 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you run a Publisher Administrative Setup (using the SETUP /A command) to
a server, and a Node Setup (using SETUP /N) from the server to a network
node at the same time, an error message appears underneath the Calculating
File Sizes dialog box on the machine doing the Node Setup while calculating
the file sizes.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 and
2.0a. This problem was corrected in Publisher version 3.0 for Windows 95.

RESOLUTION
==========

Do not run the Administrative and Node Setup for Publisher simultaneously.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM
==========================

1. Run the Administrative Setup (SETUP /A) to a server.

2. While still connected to the server, task switch out of the setup
   routine and begin a Node Setup routine. On a logical drive letter,
   run a Node Setup from the server using an absolute path name
   (for example, \\SERVER\SHARE\MSPUB\SETUP.EXE /N).

Expected Result
---------------

Setup should either discard the Calculating File Sizes dialog box before
any other error messages appear or it should deliver an appropriate
error message that covers the Calculating File Sizes dialog box.

Actual Result
-------------

The Node Setup runs normally through the welcome and name screens.
When it gets to the Calculating File Sizes dialog box, Setup generates the
message "Files Have Been Modified Or Corrupted." Then, the message
"Setup Failed" appears underneath the Calculating File Sizes dialog box.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 and
2.0a. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
