SYMPTOMS
On a Windows NT server with multiple clients stressing file I/O across the network, switching back and forth between File Manager and other applications can eventually cause File Manager to stop repainting itself and become completely frozen to mouse and keyboard input. Stopping and restarting the server service will unfreeze File Manager.
CAUSE
The cause of this problem is that the Windows NT redirector gets in a deadlock condition when two similar requests are being processed at the same time.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
