The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.x, 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1

SUMMARY

Using the Add To Menu command in Word, you can create a command which applies border effects to a paragraph or table. For example, if you frequently format paragraphs with a box around them, you can create a border command that applies a box to a paragraph.

MORE INFORMATION

Preset border commands can be created for paragraphs or tables (however, tables are not available in Word 3.x). The following shows how to create a preset border command using the Add To Menu command:

  1. Select an existing table or paragraph(s) that you want to apply the preset border command to. (To select an entire table, hold down OPTION and double-click anywhere in the table.)
  2. Word 5.0 or 5.1: From the Format menu, choose Border. Word 4.0, from the Format menu, choose Paragraph, then select Borders. Word 3.x, from the Format menu, choose Paragraph.
  3. Word 4.0, 5.0, or 5.1: Using the available line styles and horizontal and vertical border guides, apply the border effects. Word 3.x: Choose the appropriate radio buttons for line style and border types.
  4. Press COMMAND+OPTION+SHIFT+PLUS SIGN (PLUS SIGN on the main keyboard). This changes the mouse pointer to a bold plus sign.
  5. Click the Border model and then choose Cancel.

The preset border command will appear at the bottom of the Format menu. For example, a border style that formats a paragraph in a box, whose line style is Single, will appear on the Format menu as “TLBR Single Paragraph Border.”

To apply the preset border style, select a paragraph or table and choose the border style from the Format menu. You can also assign a keystroke to preset border commands using the Assign To Key command, COMMAND+OPTION+SHIFT+PLUS SIGN (the PLUS SIGN on the numeric keypad).
