FoxPro Uses More Memory Than Specified with MEMLIMIT

ID: Q109983

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b

SUMMARY

The second parameter of the MEMLIMIT command specifies the minimum amount of memory required for FoxPro for Windows. This parameter does not include the amount of memory required to load the executable (about 2.25MB). Therefore, the amount of memory FoxPro for Windows consumes when loaded is 2.25MB greater than the amount specified by the MEMLIMIT command.

MORE INFORMATION

Under a DPMI-compliant memory manager, the physical memory that FoxPro for Windows uses can be controlled by specifying the MEMLIMIT option in the CONFIG.FPW file.

For example, if the second parameter of the MEMLIMIT command specifies a minimum of 4096K of RAM, FoxPro would consume 6.25MB of RAM when loaded.

For more information about MEMLIMIT, see page 2-7 in the FoxPro for Windows "Installation and Configuration" manual.
