XL5: CTRL+BREAK When Opening Workbook with Dialog Sheet |
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, if you press CTRL+BREAK while opening a workbook that contains a dialog sheet with a combination list-edit control, you may receive a general protection (GP) fault.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, when you open a workbook that contains a dialog sheet, do not use CTRL+BREAK to cancel opening the workbook. Wait for the workbook to open, and then close it by choosing Close from the File menu.
MORE INFORMATION
When you press CTRL+BREAK while a file is being opened in Microsoft Excel, you prevent the file from opening. This method is effective if you select the wrong file to open, especially if the file is large and takes a long time to open. However, if you use this method to prevent a file from opening, and that file contains a dialog sheet with a combination list-edit control, you may receive a GP fault.
NOTE: A combination list-edit control is a linked list box control and edit box control. This problem does not occur with list box controls, edit box controls, drop-down controls, or combination drop-down edit controls.
This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0.
