PowerPoint Unexpectedly Quits with Video Mirroring Set PSS ID Number: Q109271 Article last modified on 11-16-1994 PSS database name: POWERPT

3.00 MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 3.0

SUMMARY

When you use Microsoft PowerPoint on a Macintosh Powerbook 180c with video mirroring turned on, changing the color scheme causes redraw problems on both the internal and external displays, and causes PowerPoint to unexpectedly quit or stop responding (hang). In addition, when you move the gridlines (the guides) on a Macintosh Powerbook 520c, the machine hangs.

MORE INFORMATION

Video mirroring is a feature of the Powerbook that allows two monitors to simultaneously display the same information. Disabling video mirroring allows PowerPoint to be used without problems on this machine. To disable video mirroring: 1. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels. 2. Open the Powerbook Display control panel. 3. Turn off the option for video mirroring. 4. Move the startup monitor and the menu bar to the external monitor by using the display control panel. Video mirroring is disabled once the Powerbook is restarted.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint version 3.0 for the Macintosh. This problem has been corrected in Microsoft PowerPoint version 4.0 for the Macintosh.
