Paste Link Not Available for Bitmap in Word Session |

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS
When you copy a bitmap picture in a Word for Windows document and then choose Paste Special from the Edit menu, the Paste Link button is not available for any of the picture formats.
This behavior differs from Word version 2.0.
The following is a list of raster formats which do not allow you to choose Paste Link:
BMP
PCX
TIFF
These vector formats WILL allow you to choose Paste Link:
CGM
DRW
PIC
WMF
WPG
PLT
DFX
HGL
STATUS
This functionality is by design in Word.
WORKAROUND
- Insert the picture several times, each time linking the picture to the original graphics file, and make any desired changes to the original file.
- Use a vector graphic.
