PUB: Publisher Appears to Hang Inserting Graphic, OLE Object
Q109216
------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.0a, 2.0, 2.0a - Microsoft Publisher for Windows 95, version 3.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOMS ======== When you insert a picture into your file, Microsoft Publisher may appear to stop responding (hang). This may also happen when you embed an OLE (object- linking-and-embedding) object using the Copy and Paste commands. RESOLUTION ========== To solve the problem, add the following line to the [Preferences] section on the MSPUB.INI file: DisableBitmapCache=1 MORE INFORMATION ================ When a picture or OLE object is inserted into Publisher, and the object takes longer than about 1/4 second to draw, Publisher creates a bitmap of the image that can be displayed faster. Some Windows video drivers do not allow this bitmap creation to be interrupted. If the video driver does not support this option, it may appear that Publisher has hung, when in fact it has not. The bitmap that is created by Publisher may also display differently than the actual image, depending on the video driver in use.
