Publisher Can't Access Help

Q109196

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher version 2.0 and 2.0-CD
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If Publisher is installed into a directory that contains an international
(extended) character, Publisher will be unable to access the Publisher Help
file. Publisher will start the Windows Help system and then generate the
following error message:

   Cannot open Help file.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Publisher versions 2.0 or
2.0a and Windows 3.1. This problem was corrected in Windows 95.

RESOLUTION
==========

Publisher 2.0
-------------

There are two possible solutions to this problem:

1. Be sure to install Publisher version 2.0 into a directory without
   international (extended) characters.

2. Upgrade to Publisher version 2.0a, which will not generate this error
   when installed to a directory with extended characters.

Publisher 2.0-CD
----------------

If Publisher 2.0-CD is unable to run Help, do the following:

1. Make sure Publisher is installed into a directory without international
   (extended) characters.

2. Make sure the Publisher CD-ROM is in the CD-ROM drive when you're
   running Publisher. To save hard disk storage space, Publisher Setup
   gives you the option of leaving certain files on the CD-ROM (for
   example, clip art, templates, Help). To access these files, the CD-ROM
   must be in the CD-ROM drive when you run Publisher.
