SYMPTOMS
========
Microsoft Publisher cannot save text conversions to the floppy drive.
Attempting to save text in a format other than Publisher Files, Plain Text,
or RTF will generate the following error message:
Can't find <drive>:\<filename.ext>. Insert in <drive>: and
press Retry. Cancel closes Publisher without saving your
changes.
Choosing Retry has no effect and choosing Cancel exits Publisher without
offering you a chance to save your changes. In addition, you will be unable
to perform a text conversion until you exit and restart Windows.
RESOLUTION
==========
To work around this problem:
1. Restart Windows.
2. Save your text conversion to your hard drive, either local or
network.
3. Move or copy that text file from your hard drive to your floppy
drive.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM
==========================
1. Run Publisher.
2. Choose Start From Scratch from the opening dialog box and select
Full Page. Choose OK.
3. Select the text frame tool and draw a text frame on the page.
4. Type some text into the text frame.
5. From the File menu, choose Save As.
6. Select Save All Text In Publication As.
7. Select any text converter other than Publisher Files, Plain Text,
or RTF (for example, Word for Windows 2.x).
8. Change your drive to one of your floppy drives (for example, drive
A or B).
9. Name the file and choose OK.
10. The conversion will reach 100 percent and then generate the above
error message. Choosing Retry will have no effect. Choosing Cancel
exits Publisher and returns you to Program Manager.
NOTE: If you attempt to restart Publisher and repeat the process,
you will receive the following error message:
Publisher cannot start a new text or graphics conversion while one is
already in progress. Please wait for the other conversion to finish and
then try again.
After Publisher fails to save the text conversion to your floppy
drive, you must exit and restart Windows if you want to attempt
another text conversion.
