SUMMARY
Included below is a summary of enhancements made to the DISPWRIT.CNV converter in Word 6.0 for Windows that is used to convert native DisplayWrite documents to Word 6.0 format. All improvements listed here have been made since the immediately previous Word 2.0c product release. These include:
Font Mapping
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, all DisplayWrite font styles (otherwise known as Generic Font IDs or GFIDs) are mapped to the Tms Rmn font. Because fixed-width fonts are commonly used in conjunction with spaces to horizontally align text within DisplayWrite, this mapping to a proportional font distorts document appearance.
All DisplayWrite font styles are now mapped to Courier, for which Word 6.0 automatically substitutes the TrueType font Courier New for display and printing. The result is a significant improvement in overall document appearance following conversion.
Indentation
In DisplayWrite, a temporary indent is designed to end when you press ENTER (enter a paragraph mark). However, when a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, indents are sometimes not terminated until the next temporary indent format (if any) is encountered. This results in text that follows the original indent location to appear indented inappropriately. This problem has been corrected.
Linedraw and "Not Enough Memory to Complete Operation" or GP Fault
When a DisplayWrite document that contains line drawings is opened into Word 2.0c, each line drawing character is mapped to a separate Symbol field entry. With even a modest amount of line drawing within a DisplayWrite document, this results in either a "Not Enough Memory to Complete Operation" error during conversion or a general protection (GP) Fault.
Line drawing characters are now mapped to appropriate values within the MS Linedraw font without application of Symbol fields for each character. This resolves both problems referenced above.
Line spacing Changes
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, line spacing changes are not always retained correctly. For example, double line spacing might not be terminated at the proper location. This problem has been corrected.
Multiple Page Size and Margin Settings
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, multiple page size and/or margin changes within a single document are not always correctly preserved. Multiple page size changes are now correctly maintained with appropriately placed section breaks and page size and/or margin changes.
Paragraph Justification
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, paragraph justification is sometimes not terminated at the correct location. For example, Full justification applied to one paragraph might bleed into one or more originally left-justified paragraphs that follow. This problem has been corrected.
Tables
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, text-column tables are converted to newspaper columns, but continuous section breaks are not always inserted at the proper locations to maintain appearance. This problem has been corrected.
Tabs Within Table Cells
When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, in isolated cases within table cells right-aligned tabs are not always retained or left- aligned tabs become center-aligned tabs. These problems have been corrected.
Zero-Index Carriage Returns
A DisplayWrite Zero-Index Carriage Return (ZICR) is the conceptual equivalent of a carriage return without linefeed. When a DisplayWrite document is opened into Word 2.0c, Zero-Index Carriage Returns are incorrectly converted to paragraph marks. They are now appropriately ignored.

The DisplayWrite converter functions in one direction only. Data may be brought into Word 6.0 from DisplayWrite files, but not saved in DisplayWrite format.
