SUMMARY
When you start Word for Windows, it looks for the Normal template (NORMAL.DOT) in the following locations, in order:
- The user TEMPLATES directory (USER-DOT-PATH setting in WINWORD6.INI)
- The workgroup TEMPLATES directory (WORKGROUP-DOT-PATH setting in WINWORD6.INI)
- The Word program directory (for example, C:)
- The current directory
If Word cannot find the Normal template in any of the above locations, it uses the preset program default settings.

Word 6.0 does not use the DOT-PATH setting in the [Microsoft Word] section of your Windows WIN.INI file (Word 2.x uses the DOT-PATH setting).
