Works: WordArt Object Does Not Display Text

Article ID: 108377

Article Last Modified on 10/6/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Works 3.0 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Works 3.0a
  • Microsoft Works 3.0b
  • Microsoft Publisher 2.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q108377

SYMPTOMS

WordArt 2.0 objects in Microsoft Works 3.0 and Publisher 2.0 may not display text. When you create a WordArt 2.0 object in Works 3.0 or Publisher 2.0, you see the text you type, both in the editing box and on the page. Once you select away from the WordArt 2.0 editing box and return to the document, the text disappears.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the OLE2.REG file is not properly registered.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, do the following:

  1. Quit Works 3.0 or Publisher 2.0.
  2. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
  3. Type regedit /u ole2.reg.

The following message should be displayed:

Information in OLE2.REG has been successfully registered in the registration database.

  4. If Windows is installed in C:\WINDOWS, then continue with step 5. Otherwise, use Write to edit the WORDART2.REG file, which is located in the <Windows path>\MSAPPS\WORDART directory, and replace all occurrences of C:\WINDOWS with the correct path to your Windows installation.
  5. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
  6. Type regedit /u <windows path>\msapps\wordart\wordart2.reg.

The following message should be displayed:

Information in <windows path>\MSAPPS\WORDART\WORDART2.REG has been successfully registered in the registration database.

Open Works 3.0 or Publisher 2.0 and create a new WordArt 2.0 object. The text should now appear in your document.
