== SUMMARY ==

== MORE INFORMATION ==

Microsoft Excel saves user-defined autoformats and other chart information in the XL5GALRY.XLS file, located in the EXCEL\XLSTART directory. This file is modified through choices that you make in various dialog boxes in Microsoft Excel.

If you open XL5GALRY.XLS and then save it with a password, you may notice the following unexpected behavior when you are working in Microsoft Excel, version 5.0:

If you click Options on the Tools menu, you may be prompted to enter a password. If you enter the correct password, the Options dialog box will appear and you should have full access to all options. If you do not enter a password, you will receive the error message

Error accessing User-defined AutoFormat file

and the Options dialog box will appear. However, you will not be able to change the Default Chart Format setting on the Chart tab.

If you click AutoFormat on the Format menu when a chart is active, selecting the User-Defined option may result in a prompt for a password. If you enter the correct password, you should be able to make any desired changes to the User-Defined options.

If you do not enter a password, you may receive the error message

Error accessing User-defined AutoFormat file

and you may not be able to access or define custom formats, depending on the type of password which has been set.

For the above reasons, and because there may be other negative effects associated with a password-protected XL5GALRY.XLS file, it is recommended that you DO NOT save the XL5GALRY.XLS file with any kind of password.
