The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Creative Writer for Windows, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

If you save your document after you have selected jokes multiple times (clicked the Jester in the Carpet Bag), you may receive a general protection fault (GP fault). This may occur if you are using version 1.3 of the Dell 640 x 480 32,000-color video driver. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, do one of the following: - Use the Dell 640 x 480 16-color driver. - Use the Dell 640 x 480 256-color driver. - Use the Microsoft S3 driver, version 1.4. - Use a standard VGA video driver. NOTE: Version 1.4 of this video driver does not include a 32,000-color mode. The Microsoft S3 v. 1.4 video driver is included in the Windows Driver Library (WDL).

MORE INFORMATION

If you have a modem, you can obtain the WDL at no charge on CompuServe, GEnie, Microsoft OnLine, and the Microsoft Download Service (MSDL). However, note that standard connect-time fees and long-distance telephone charges, if any, will still apply during downloading. When you connect to any of these services, please read the WDL.TXT file for downloading instructions and a complete list of devices supported in the WDL. The phone number for the MSDL is (206) 936-MSDL (6735). There is no connect-time charge for using this service. On CompuServe, the WDL is in the Microsoft Software Library, which can be reached by typing “go msl” (without quotation marks) at the system prompt. (To find WDL.TXT, search on S13354.) On the GEnie and Microsoft OnLine systems, the WDL is in the Microsoft Software Library. (To find WDL.TXT, search on S13354.) If you do not have a modem, you can obtain an individual WDL driver on disk by calling Microsoft Product Support Services at (206) 637-7098. For more information on Dell video drivers, contact Dell Computer Corporation’s technical support department at (800) 624-9896.
