XL5: Text in Copy To Box Appears Available in Advanced Filter

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q108106

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel version 5.0, when you use the Advanced Filter, text in the Copy To box will appear to be available (even if you choose the Filter The List In-Place option).

MORE INFORMATION

When you use Advanced Filter to filter a list in-place, the Copy To option will be unavailable (gray), indicating that the Copy To box is disabled. However, if there is text in the Copy To box, it may appear as though the edit box is available (that is, it has not been disabled).

This effect a visual one only: it has no effect on the functionality of the Advanced Filter.

If you don't want text to appear in the Copy To edit box, you can clear the edit box when the Copy To Another Location option is selected. The edit box will remain empty until you add text to it.
