Lotus 1-2-3 Picture Objects Appear as Black Boxes PSS ID Number: Q108085 Article last modified on 10-28-1994 PSS database name: POWERPT

3.00 WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you copy spreadsheet or chart objects containing picture information from Lotus 1-2-3 version 4.0 for Windows, and paste them into Microsoft PowerPoint 3.0, the picture pastes as a black box. Any method of transferring the image that uses Windows metafile (picture) information produces this behavior. Other Windows-based applications paste Lotus 1-2-3 4.0 pictures correctly. PowerPoint 2.0x and 4.0 also paste the picture information properly.

WORKAROUNDS

Try one of the following workarounds: 1. After copying the information from Lotus 1-2-3, choose Paste Special from the Edit menu in PowerPoint, and select Bitmap from the list of available data types. The picture appears correctly, although it is not possible to create a link to Lotus 1-2-3 using this procedure. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint for Windows, version 3.0. -or- 2. After pasting or embedding the Lotus 1-2-3 object into PowerPoint for Windows, choose Ungroup from the Arrange menu. This will allow the object to be seen, but will remove any object linking or embedding capabilities inherent in the object.
