A Video for Windows AVI file embedded as a media clip object in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation may play in a window instead of the full screen, even though the full screen option is selected in the Device menu of the Media Player.

This occurs when the Play In Client Document option has been selected in the Media Player.

If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT, please see the following article here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

ARTICLE-ID: Q140997 TITLE : PPT: How to Play Video Clips Full Screen in PowerPoint

Windows 3.x and Windows for Workgroups 3.x

To correct this problem while creating a new media clip object:

  1. On the Edit menu, click Insert Object.
  2. Select Media Clip from the list of object types.
  3. Media Player starts. On the File menu, click Open. Select the AVI file you want to play and press ENTER.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Options.
  5. Clear the Play In Client Document check box. Press ENTER.
  6. On the Insert Clip menu, click Properties. In PowerPoint 3.0 and 4.0 on the Device menu, click Configure.
  7. Select the Full Screen check box in the Video Mode area.
  8. Click the Set Default button, then press ENTER.
  9. On the File menu, click Exit And Return To Presentation.
  10. Click Yes to update the object in the presentation.

The clip should now play in the full screen instead of in a window. The size of the object in the screen is dependent on the video resolution.

To correct this problem for an existing Media Clip object:

  1. Select the object in your PowerPoint presentation.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Media Clip and select Edit.
  3. Media Player opens. On the Edit menu, click Options and clear the Play In Client Document check box.
  4. On the Device menu, click Configure.
  5. Select the Full Screen check box in the Video Mode area.
  6. Click Set Default and press ENTER.
  7. On the File menu, click Exit And Return and choose Yes to update the object in your presentation.

These instructions apply only to embedded Video for Windows files. Media Player can embed media objects of any type for which an MCI (Media Control Interface) driver is installed in Control Panel.

Each type of media has a different set of options when you choose the Edit or Device menus in Media Player.
