The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
- Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
- Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
SUMMARY
In Microsoft Excel, all sheets in a workbook share the following calculation settings:
- 1904 Date System
- Precision as Displayed
- Save External Link Values
In earlier versions of Microsoft Excel, these options were set individually for each sheet.
Because of this difference, when you open a Microsoft Excel 4.0 workbook in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or later, you may find that some of your sheets are using the incorrect 1904 Date System, Precision as Displayed, or Save External Link Values settings.
MORE INFORMATION
When you open a Microsoft Excel version 4.0 workbook in either Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0, the 1904 Date System, Precision as Displayed, and Save External Link Values settings for the last sheet in the workbook are applied to all of the sheets in the workbook. For example, if you have a Microsoft Excel 4.0 Workbook that contains the following sheets and settings
Sheet 1904 Date Precision as Save External name System Displayed Link Values ----------------------------------------------- Sheet1 no yes yes Sheet2 yes no no Sheet3 no no yes
and you open the workbook in either Microsoft Excel version 5.0 or 7.0, the sheets will all use the settings specified the last sheet (Sheet3 in this example). If Sheet2 is the last sheet in the workbook, its settings will be used by all of the other sheets.
