SYMPTOMS

Word version 6.0 for Windows issues the following message when you try to spell check a Word for the Macintosh document that you opened in Word 6.0 for Windows.

The spelling check is complete. Text formatted with (no proofing) was skipped.

CAUSE

The Language setting is set to No Proofing in Word for the Macintosh documents that have beem imported into Word 6.0 for Windows.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

Change the Language setting from No Proofing to the correct Language setting. For example, if you’re in the US, select all of the document text by choosing Select All from the Edit menu, choose Language from the Tools menu, change No Proofing to English US. The spelling checker will now spell check the Word for the Macintosh document.
