How Summary Information Converts Between WordPerfect and Word

Q107683

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0

SUMMARY

In conversion to Word 6.0, Word retains WordPerfect 5.1 for MS-DOS and WordPerfect 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows user-editable Document Summary Information fields that have equivalents in Word 6.0, and vice versa. Document Summary Information fields in WordPerfect 6.x documents are not retained when the document is opened in Word 6.0. The following table displays available summary options and how they map between WordPerfect 5.x and Word 6.0:

MORE INFORMATION

WordPerfect for Windows includes an option to place an extract of the document in the summary abstract. An extract is comprised of the first 160 characters of a document's subject, the first 400 characters of the document, and the author and typist information. Because a WordPerfect abstract is converted to comments in Word, and comments are limited to 255 characters, a full document extract created in this manner cannot be retained.
