SUMMARY
Annotations are not a feature of WordPerfect version 5.1 for MS-DOS or WordPerfect 5.1 or 5.2 for Windows. Therefore, when you save a Word 6.0 for Windows document in WordPerfect format, annotations are converted to WordPerfect comments to retain textual content.

To allow preservation of annotations in round-trip conversion to and from WordPerfect, Word 6.0 inserts a hidden code in the WordPerfect document preceding the resulting comment. This code allows Word to know later that it should convert that comment back to an annotation if the document is reopened in Word. Otherwise, Word normally converts WordPerfect comments to hidden text.
The hidden code Word places in the WordPerfect document for an annotation during export has no adverse effect on the editability or appearance of the document in WordPerfect. Hidden/comment code originating from a Word annotation appears as follows in WordPerfect Reveal Codes:
