Works: Blank Lines in the REG.DAT File

Article ID: 107595

APPLIES TO

SUMMARY

If you use Registration Info Editor (REGEDIT.EXE) to view the REG.DAT file, you may see several blank lines at the top and bottom of the file. These blank lines are caused by early releases of OLE 2.0, which inserted entries that do not have an equal sign ("=") that is used by Registration Info Editor to separate key names from text entries.

Do NOT delete these lines. The information you cannot see is vital to the functionality of OLE and Windows in general.

MORE INFORMATION

To display more detailed information without the blank lines, use the REGEDIT /V command to start Registration Info Editor and view the file.

This problem was corrected in a later release of OLE 2.0 and should not occur in systems with Works for Windows 3.0 installed.
