SYMPTOMS

When you close the header toolbar in Microsoft Word for Windows 6.0, you may cause Windows NT to stop responding (hang).

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Make sure Word is in a window and not full-screen. The document window should be maximized.
  2. Choose Headers and Footer from the View menu.
  3. In the header box, type EVOLUTIONARY MUTATIONS.
  4. Highlight the text you just typed and format it using Impact in 48 point size.
  5. Choose the Close button on the header toolbar.

Windows NT hangs and you must restart your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1.
