Publisher Err Msg: "Insufficient Memory to Run Application"

Q107411

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When trying to run Publisher 2.0, you may receive the error "Application
Execution Error...insufficient memory to run this application" even if
there appears to be plenty of memory and disk space and there is nothing
obviously wrong with the basic configuration.

CAUSE
=====

A corrupted DDEML.DLL file may cause this error. (Note that there may be
other causes for this error; this is the only cause that has been
confirmed.)

RESOLUTION
==========

DDEML.DLL is a file that comes with Windows 3.1. After installation, it is
located in the \\WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. If this file is not the
correct file size and date, re-expand it from the Windows installation
disks.

To determine the correct file size and date, refer to this table:

                                   File Size               Date
                                    ---------               ----

   Windows 3.1                     36864 bytes             3/10/92
   Windows for Workgroups 3.11     38912 bytes             11/1/93
   Windows 95                      32240 bytes             7/11/95

MORE INFORMATION
================

Microsoft has confirmed that a missing or corrupted DDEML.DLL may cause
problems with the operation of Publisher 2.0, though the exact symptoms may
vary depending on the version of Windows being used and the type of
corruption in the file.
