Problems Using Windows Printing System with LPT<x>.DOS

SYMPTOMS

When you print to the Windows Printing System using the port LPT<x>.DOS, the printer output may appear garbled.

CAUSE

If you are using the port LPT<x>.DOS and Print Manager is active, Windows Printing System prints garbled text. If you disable Print Manager, the text prints correctly.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, disable Print Manager, or use the LPT<x> port setting.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows Printing System version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
