Maximum Number of Indexed Files That Can Be OPENed in XENIX

PSS ID Number: Q10694 Article last modified on 11-16-1992

2.10 2.20 XENIX

Summary: When the CHAIN command is used, the maximum number of open Indexed files is reduced; the maximum number of files a process can have open at one time is 15. The CHAIN verb affects the number of open files, ISAM or otherwise, because COBOL has to open a file to load the CHAINed program. Another file is used up when CHAINing, leaving one less for you to use. For each ISAM file opened, two of the 15 files are used; one file is for the key, and one for the data.
